Wattbike - Icon/AtomX for Fat Free Media
My role:
3D modelling
Rigging
Character animation
Animation
Texturing
Particle R&D
Lookdev
Lighting
Render wrangling
Compositing
We were tasked by Wattbike to take their latest high end training bikes into the eyeballs of millions of viewers.
The bikes didn’t exist, so a 3D model was used from CAD supplied by the client. My role in the production was to take the models all the way from CAD to video suitable for use in an over-the-top, brooding, glitchy motion graphics piece.

Behind the scenes
It was decided that the look of the character in this film should match the readout on the tablet of the Wattbike. I was tasked with exploring various looks that would not only work with this theme but also be manageable in a production environment.
Initial R&D was promising on a static mesh but it soon became clear that the approach would take the project way over budget given the amount of particles and trails required to sell the look.
The last look in the gallery below is the closest to the final video: particle trails that oscillate across the character. The trails stick to the character and work with the lighting in order to help define the silhouette.
