Crich Tramway Museum wanted a new exhibit to celebrate one of their most popular exhibits, the Leeds 602. This tram was special due to its short lived tenure in Leeds, and it’s acceleration/braking control, known as the VAMBAC.

The main focus of the exhibit was to showcase original drawings, blueprints, instruction manuals and photographs of the tram as well as the VAMBAC. A seperate 3D animation was developed which explained the need for the unit, and demonstrated how it worked.

I designed the interface around the livery of the tram; released in time for the coronation it references royal purples, creams and golds. Sketched outlines recalling hand-drawn schematics are progressively brushed over with colour in the animation.

I 3D modelled the tram and VAMBAC unit, taking care to balance the need for historical accuracy with the available reference materials.
